Butterfly ID is a free AI-based tool that suggests butterfly species. The website is operated as a hobby project and offered as is, without warranties.
2. Who can use it?
Anyone can use the service without registration for hobbies, education, checking observations and other non-critical purposes.
3. Research and nature management
Model suggestions are assessments, not professional identifications. Do not use them as the sole basis for research, nature management, official sighting reports or other situations where accuracy is critical. Always verify against expert sources.
4. No warranties
We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. The model can be wrong, especially with unclear photos, species with few training images or species it was not trained on.
5. Liability
We disclaim responsibility for loss, damage or inconvenience arising from use of the service. Do not use it where an incorrect identification could have practical, financial or legal consequences.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Circumvent or abuse the service, including scraping, DoS or brute-force attacks.
- Upload illegal content or content unrelated to butterflies.
- Attempt to identify people behind anonymous submissions.
- Train competing models using our API.
7. Copyright
Uploaded photos remain yours and are not stored. Model suggestions and other website content must not be copied in their entirety without permission. Separate photograph licences are listed in the credits.
8. Third-party data
Species pages link to Naturbasen and other national species sources. Their terms apply to their content.
9. Changes
We may change, suspend or close the service without notice. These terms may change; significant changes are marked with a new date.
10. Governing law
Danish law applies. The venue is Copenhagen.
