Flight period

The flight period begins in early July and may last 3–4 weeks.

Habitat

High-altitude plateaus at heights of 800–1200 metres, featuring mosaic-like mountain slopes, transition zones, and small stream corridors.

Identifying features

Wingspan 26–36 millimetres. On the above, the wings are grey-yellow to yellow-red, with a diffuse grey-black pattern and without edge spots. Its small size and diffuse pattern distinguish it from Frigga Fritillary.

Similar species

Similar to Frigga Fritillary (Boloria frigga), which, however, is considerably larger.

Distribution

Known only from a few areas in the northernmost Swedish mountains, primarily around the Torne bog, as well as an isolated occurrence in the Pite lappmark.

Biology

The species has a two-year life cycle; the larvae are likely to live on dwarf birch species. The pupation occurs lying between loosely interwoven leaves of the host plant.
