Flight period

Typically flies for 2–3 weeks from the second week of July, possibly from the middle of June to the end of July.

Habitat

Rocky mountain plateaus at altitudes of 800–1400 metres.

Identifying features

Wingspan 35–43 millimetres. On the upper side, the wings are brownish-yellow with black markings; the underside has a silver-white toothed band. The triangular white edging distinguishes it from Arctic Fritillary.

Similar species

May be confused with Arctic Fritillary (Boloria polaris); Purplish Fritillary has triangular, rather than T-shaped, white spots along the wing margin.

Distribution

Found only in Sweden, Padjelanta, Torneträsk, and Pältsan; otherwise circumpolar in Arctic.

Biology

The development is poorly known; the Swedish tourism growth is likely to be limited to the edges of the forest.
