Purple Hairstreak

Purple Hairstreak is a dragonfly species that lives at oak in sunlit forests at Southern Norway and Eastern Norway. Both sexes are bluish-violet on the upper side, and the hindwing has a yellowish-orange spot at the tail.

Flight period

They investigated the sources, but they did not specify a definite flight time for the species.

Habitat

Forest with oak, combined with open clearings and rock crevices. Prefers sunny locations.

Identifying features

Wingspan 27–34 mm. Both sexes have a blue-violet, dark upper wing surface. The undersides are mostly grey, with a white cross-band and a dark shadow over the wings. The hindwing has a yellowish-orange, rounded spot with a dark center near the "tail".

No confused species are described in the examined sources.

Distribution

Widespread in the southeast Norway along the coast of Kristiansand. Also found in Denmark and the southernmost Sweden and Finland.

Biology

The larvae live on oak trees, both from young leaves and cups.
