Flight period

Eastern Bath White flies in two generations from May to September. The larva can be found from June to October.

Habitat

The species often inhabits coastal areas, construction sites, railway lines, and larger slopes. However, these locations must be warm.

Identifying features

Wing span 34-48 mm. The otherwise uniform white wings are varied on both the upper side of the forewing and the underside of both wings, with a multitude of clustered spots: green on the underside of the forewing, and brown-red on the upper side.

Similar species

Eastern Bath White can be confused with large, small, and green-veined white, as well as orange tip. Cabbage butterfly is significantly larger and does not have black plates at the wingtips.

Distribution

Eastern Bath White is today likely exclusively a visitor when observed in Denmark. It is rare and is normally only seen in the country's southern regions.

Biology

The flight is very fast and erratic, typically quite low to the ground. In its search for nectar plants, Eastern Bath White prefers to target cross-flowered or composite flowers.
